a different kind of start

I’ve just left my classroom at the end of our All Staff Institute. For once I’ve actually left my classroom ready to go for Monday morning’s early release day wherein we orient our kids to the building and give them a resounding “Welcome!” or “Welcome back!”

I’m honestly a bit of a mess – chaos is my norm. I’m (apparently) an ADD teacher whose spirit guide is a dumpster fire (that’s two different stories that will probably end of up here later). It really is a record to have my class ready to go for a first day of school the Friday before. Is it perfect? No. Is it first-day ready? It is! It’s a miracle. An honest to god (and goddesses) miracle.

This year is a year of new things. I’ve come into a new world with new emotional experiences, thanks to therapy, medication, and learned regulation. Things are feeling just a little easier and just a little different from how they were before. It’s a lot like that moment when you get your new glasses and things are so much more in focus and you feel like you can see every detail in the world – like you’ve been missing something.

Here’s to the future – and all the strange and new experiences to come.
